SPOTLIGHT: CLIPPER GREEN TEA WITH ECHINACEA

I bought this lovely green tea blend heading into flu season as echinacea is a great boost to the immune system, and I’d take tea over pills any day. Green teas vary wildly in quality and taste, so if they are too strong or musky I’ll often hate them, but this was a great mesh of subtlety with a fruity kick. It’s obvious that when it comes to quality crafted teas, the British are the experts.

The tea itself is beautiful, a fine fusion of a superb green tea infused with echinacea root, and lovely citrus overtones. The taste itself is all sophistication, with a light and delicate flavour and a refreshingly fruity aftertaste.

Whether you want to drink this as a regular health boost, or to make you feel refreshed when you’re in the midst of illness, it serves as both a gentle pick-me-up and a soothing comfort drink to clear your head. A great revitalizer when you need a 10 minute break.

The mellow colour of this tea alludes to its subtlety.

I also love everything about the brand itself – the gorgeous graphics, fonts, and marketing; the eco friendly boxes and unbleached bags; the range of flavours and products (a range which I am slowly making my way through); their emphasis on absolute quality of product and their ethical business practices – they just get better and better.

The unbleached bags really give you the feel of the company's values of sustainability and organic produce.

The company itself was started by tea tasters with a passion for quality blends, and has been in the fair trade business for 10 years. They are extremely popular in the UK, and it’s a pleasure to see some of their products on the shelves in New Zealand. It’s not hard to see why they have received multiple Great Taste Awards for their delicious blends.

The company has also been highly commended by the Soil Association for it’s organic production – standards which exceed the minimum that are required by the EU to justify the “organic” label. (If you’re interested, the Soil Association’s standards are available here.) Clipper also comes under the umbrella of Wessanen UK, which has been accredited by Best Companies for the wonderful ways in which they treat their staff.

Overall I’m amazed with both this blend of tea, and the company behind it. It’s a real pleasure to find a gem like this available on our shelves despite being on the other side of the world, and I can only hope that we will start to see more of their products being stocked on our shelves.
